The Causes of ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD is prevalent in children and adults may have ADHD too. The cause of this developmental disorder is unknown but scientists and medical experts agree that one of the ADHD causes is the child’s environment.

The environment of a child plays a vital role in his development. Growing in a nurturing and loving environment can benefit any child and may also lead him to excel in anything that he does. But in the case of ADHD, there are specific things in the environment that can be a reason for this developmental disorder.

It has been found out that infants who were exposed to cigarette smoking grew up with ADHD. Cigarette smoking is also very dangerous to anybody’s health and may cause pulmonary illnesses and other physiologic conditions as well. Cigarette smoke is dangerous to anybody especially children and this is the reason why it is seen as an ADHD cause.

Another environmental ADHD cause is lead. Infants and children exposed to lead in paint were more susceptible in developing ADHD. Old houses may still have lead in paint and this can cause lead toxicity in children and also in adults. Lead is also found in highly polluted environments like city streets and highly populated areas. Houses may be too near the city streets where there is dangerous smoke emitted by traffic. Children who live in these areas are more likely to develop ADHD as compared to children in rural areas.

Environmental factors can really play an important role in any child and a child with ADHD as well. The environment can also play a great part in managing and treating ADHD. If you would like to seek treatment for your child with ADHD, consult a doctor for the appropriate diagnosis and management of ADHD.
